Busy Week for ‘44′
President Barack Obama had lots on his plate this week. Of course there was his first address to Congress. Then there was a cabinet nomination and a cabinet confirmation…
From Q13 Fox News:
Elected officials from Washington state reacted with glee as President Barack Obama prepared to nominate former Washington Gov. Gary Locke as commerce secretary.
Locke, a Democrat, became the nation’s first Chinese-American governor when he took office in 1997 and served two terms. Obama planned to make the announcement on Wednesday, according to an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the appointment has not been made public.
Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire said she had pushed for Locke to join the Obama administration, calling him an expert on international trade and China in particular.
“I think it’s great,” Gregoire said Tuesday. “Who better than Gary to understand international trade and our relationship with China? He gets it better than anyone.”
From the San Francisco Gate:
Six weeks after holding a confirmation hearing on California Rep. Hilda L. Solis, the U.S. Senate Tuesday confirmed her as Secretary of Labor. The bi-partisan vote was 80-17.
It was the longest delay to date in the approval of Pres. Obama’s cabinet picks. Still remaining: choosing and confirming secretaries to run the departments of commerce and health and human services. Obama is expected to announce former Washington state governor Gary Locke as his choice for commerce on Wednesday.
