President-elect nominates FCC Chief and more

From The Caucus Blog at the New York Times:

President-elect Barack Obama intends to nominate Julius Genachowski , an adviser on technology issues and longtime friend, to become the next chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, advisers to Mr. Obama said.

…and this, good news for net neutrality proponents:

During the campaign, Mr. Genachowski shaped many of Mr. Obama’s telecom policies. He advocated an open Internet in the debate over so-called “net neutrality,’’ and media-ownership rules that promote a diversity of voices onthe airwaves.

A bevy of Obama administration news from C-Span:

Continuing his transition into the Oval Office, Pres.-Elect Barack Obama faces more questions about his economic stimulus plan and difficulties in the confirmation process, the LA Times reports. Earlier today, Incoming White House chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel spoke to reporters with his outgoing counterpart Josh Bolten. This afternoon, Mr. Obama plans to attend a Senate Democrat party luncheon.
Clinton Secretary of State hearings from Shakesville:
Hillary Clinton’s confirmation hearing is going on right now, and I just heard a brief clip on the radio in which she was listing all the things that have happened in the world just since the election, and included on her list was (paraphrased) ongoing widespread rape as a tool of war in the Congo.

Our next Secretary of State just cited epidemic rape as a pressing foreign policy concern.
